Arsenal’s German playmaker Mesut Ozil is a transfer target for Manchester United, according to the Guardian. United manager Jose Mourinho worked with Ozil at Real Madrid and the two had a good relationship, which should help the Portuguese manager convince the Arsenal star to leave the Emirates.
Ozil’s contract expires next summer and Arsenal will be looking to make some money on the midfielder in January rather than letting him leave for free in the summer. Amongst Manchester United’s rivals to sign Ozil are Italian club Inter Milan, and it would perhaps be more beneficial for Arsenal to let one of their top players go abroad rather than selling him to a Premier League rival.
After defeats to Stoke and Liverpool early in the season Arsenal have turned their form around and currently sit fifth in the Premier League. With new singing Alexandre Lacazette having started brightly and Alexis Sanchez back in the side the Gunners look like a decent side.
Ozil has often been a figure who divides opinion, with many believing he is simply lazy and lacking motivation in what he perceives as the less important games. Few can doubt his talent, but if Arsenal can get a respectable transfer sum for him in January it looks as if the German will be happy to move on.
