If reports are to be believed Arsenal are planning a January clearance sale, with English winger Theo Walcott the latest player linked with a move away from North London. The destination would be Southampton, where Walcott started his career all those years ago, according to the Express.
The winger has been struggling for game time at Arsenal for a few seasons now, and he is yet to start a Premier League game this season. Despite a brace against BATE Borisov in Arsenal’s last Europa League game Walcott is still behind the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and new signing Alexandre Lacazette in Arsene Wenger’s plans. It is no surprise then that he is linked with a move, and Southampton aren’t the only team interested. Inter Milan, Everton and West Ham are all said to be chasing the Englishman’s signature.
Southampton do offer the romantic appeal, as it was on the south coast that Walcott made his first leap into professional football at the tender age of 16. That was back in 2005 and much has changed since then. Southampton find themselves 12th in the Premier League after seven games, but have only managed to find the back of the net five times. Their struggle to find goals justifies their interest in Walcott, who has scored 107 goals for Arsenal, and the romantic return could happen in January if the clubs can reach an agreement.
