Despite his enthusiasm for remaining at the club, Jack Wilshere has yet to agree a new deal and is on course to leave Arsenal on a free transfer this summer.
The Daily Mirror reports the Gunners offer for a new deal is based on the 26-year-old maintaining his fitness. It’s claimed that the base salary would drop from its’ current level of £110,000 to £90,000 per week with the shortfall and increased contract value coming from bonuses based around appearances.
While Wilshere is keen to stay at the Emirates, Juventus are the latest European club to offer him an escape route. The Bianconeri hope that the promise of continued Champions League football will tempt the England international to reject the offer from the Gunners.
With former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny among their ranks, Wilshere won’t be alone in the northern Italian city and Juve hope the pair’s friendship will sway the midfielder into a move.
Wilshere has been in sparkling form for Arsenal since returning to first-team football and reclaimed his place as the lynchpin of the Gunners midfield.
His aim for this season is to once again be called into the England squad, with head coach Gareth Southgate keeping a close eye on his progress.
