Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has been widely expected to leave the Saints during the summer transfer window.
The Dutch centre-back is thought to be keen on a switch to Liverpool, who attempted to sign him behind Southampton’s back but were ultimately forced to apologise and seemingly exit the race for van Dijk’s signature.
The Reds have now returned for the defender as they look to bolster their backline, but Jurgen Klopp could face some competition in the race for the highly-rated centre-back as Arsenal are believed to be keen on the player as well.
The Gunners are reportedly preparing a bid, but the Saints are confident they will be able to keep hold of the player who hasn’t submitted a transfer request to force a move to Anfield.
The British media reports, however, Southampton have not received any formal offers for their key man as race hots up slowly but surely.
