Premier League giants Arsenal are perhaps the most active club in this January transfer window, but the majority of their business seems likely to be focussed on outgoings, with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez both set to depart the North London club.
There is some good news for Gunners fans however as, according to Sky Sports, local favourite Jack Wilshere is staying put, if veteran manager Arsene Wenger is to be believed. The Frenchman had a lot to say in his press conference, and even implied that the midfielder could become the club captain.
“I see Jack staying because he is an Arsenal man,” said Wenger. “He was here at the age of 10 and has some leadership qualities. He has a football brain. He is completely focused on Arsenal.”
Wilshere is of course heavily associated with Arsenal, having come through the academy and started playing at such a young age for the Gunners. He has never quite managed to secure consistent game time however, whether due to injury or form, but Wenger’s comments could provide the boost that the midfielder needs.
Arsenal currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, five points behind fourth place Liverpool who have a game in hand over the North London side.
