Alexis Sanchez contract u-turn explained

The Alexis Sanchez transfer saga has taken a remarkable number of twists and turns, with most of the top clubs in Europe registering an interest in acquiring the winger’s services.

However now the Mirror has revealed that Sanchez in fact agreed a contract extension at Arsenal, but changed his mind following his side’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The winger had reportedly thrashed out a new deal just over a year ago, only to reverse his decision following the Gunners’ 10-2 aggregate destruction by the Bundesliga giants.

The player clearly believes he is too talented to remain at the North London club, and the interest of the likes of Manchester City and PSG perhaps confirms that belief.

The Chilean international’s current contract expires at the end of this season, and it remains to be seen where his next destination will be. With 24 goals and 10 assists in the last Premier League campaign, there is little doubt of the winger’s supreme talent, and his addition to the squad of either City or PSG would be a frightening prospect.

Arsenal are unsurprisingly already in the market for a replacement, but will face an uphill battle to bring in the same level of quality as Sanchez if he does indeed depart in January.
