Chelsea’s target man shortlist now includes Giroud

It has been a few days since we had a Chelsea target man rumour, but luckily there is another name joining the likes of Peter Crouch and Andy Carroll on the Blues’ bizarre shopping list.

That name belongs to Olivier Giroud, according to the Guardian, but any deal involving the striker would mean Arsenal selling yet another player to a Premier League rival.

Giroud has been heavily linked with a switch to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, mainly as part of a deal that would see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang join the Gunners, but there are a number of clubs reportedly interested in the French international.

The forward has netted over 100 goals for the North London club during his six seasons there, despite being resigned to the substitute’s bench for much of his Arsenal career. He has proved himself as a prolific goal scorer, and is also the first choice France striker when on international duty.

Chelsea certainly need a proven forward, given the relative struggles of summer signing Alvaro Morata, and the fact that the Blues are the lowest scoring side in the top six.

45 goals scored in 24 games is by no means a disaster, but in order to keep pace with their top four rivals it is clear than Antonio Conte needs to bolster his squad.
