Premier League giants Arsenal are set for a potentially tricky January should they indeed see the departures of star players Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The duo have both been heavily linked with moves away from North London, and it is little surprise that manager Arsene Wenger is in the market for an equally talented replacement.

The name now at the top of the French coach’s shopping list is that of Karim Benzema, according to the Star, who has been struggling of late at Spanish super club Real Madrid.

The striker has netted just twice in La Liga this season, despite making 12 appearances. Benzema has been a stalwart up top for Los Blancos for nine seasons now, and has been a fairly consistent scorer.

The Gunners find themselves sixth in the Premier League table at the time of writing, four points off Liverpool who currently occupy the fourth spot. With 34 goals scored so far in this campaign, Arsenal are the joint lowest scorers in the top six, and their attacking threat will likely diminish even further when Ozil and Sanchez do depart.

The addition of Benzema would certainly be a statement of intent, and the French international’s goal scoring experience would be invaluable to Wenger’s side.
